Independence Day is fast approaching. Are you planning on having a Fourth of July celebration? We’ve got some great tips to make this Fourth of July fun and enjoyable for everyone.

Fourth of July Food

Add some fun to your 4th of July party food. If you are tired of the same old burgers and hot dogs on this holiday, go ahead and add more choices and try something new this year. Instead of just burgers and hot dogs, why not cook up some chicken, lamb, or even seafood? There is no rule that the food should be one thing or another. In fact, a potluck of choices is the most American of all ways to celebrate!

Barbecued Pork Spare Ribs Recipe

The secret to this Fourth of July favorite is in the sauce!

Serves: 4

Serving Size: 3 ribs

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs pork spare ribs
  • 8 3/4 oz of tomato ketchup
  • 7/8 fl oz of chilli sauce
  • 1/2 Tbsp cumin powder
  • 4 Tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 7 oz honey
  • 3 1/3 fl oz soy sauce
  • 8 garlic cloves, minced
  • 8 1/2 fl oz water
  • 1 3/4 oz sugar

Directions

  1. Place marinade ingredients in a medium size saucepan.
  2. Whisk together and bring to a boil.
  3. Let marinade cook for another minute and then remove from the heat.
  4. Place spare ribs into a large saucepan and cover with half of the marinade.
  5. Add water to almost cover the ribs and bring to boil.
  6. Cover saucepan with lid and turn down heat.
  7. Simmer for 2 and half hours until the meat is tender. The meat is ready when you can insert a knife with little resistance.
  8. About 30 to 45 minutes before the meat is done, start to prepare the grill. If you are using a charcoal grill, wait until the charcoal has turned white and there are no more flames. If you are using an electric grill, turn it to high and give it about 20 minutes to heat up.
  9. Once the meat is ready, use a slotted spoon or a tong to remove the ribs from the saucepan and place onto a tray to dry some before barbecuing.
  10. Dip the spare ribs into the remaining sauce and place them on the grill allowing them to cook for about two minutes.
  11. Turn the ribs over, brush with more sauce, and cook for 2 more minutes.
  12. Repeat once more, and remove the ribs from the grill.
